With the supply of Radio Shack hack-able radios drying up, and the price going through the roof. The quest for the poor man's ghost box is not dead.

Allow me to introduce you to the Memorex MB221 2Xtreme. A portable sport style digital PLL synthesized AM/FM arm band radio.

The average price of these radios are going for about $12, shipping included. (check E-bay)

The surgical procedure is very simple and should take less than 10 minutes to perform.

The materials needed:
1 mini phillips head screwdriver.
1 razor blade.
1 set of small side cutters or something similar.

FYI, I didn't discover this hack, just spreading the good word of the ghost box gospel.

Step 2: Carefully separate the enclosure.
Step 3: Locate the row of solder points for the grey ribbon cable, and find the solder joint labeled "mute".

Step 6: Follow the wire you identified earlier as the "mute wire", from the top board to the bottom board.
Step 7: Use your razor blade to carefully cut the insulation in between the adjacent wires on the ribbon.
Step 8: Use your side cutters to snip the "mute wire" as close to the bottom circuit board as possible, and bend it backwards.
Step 9: reassemble in reverse, make sure when you are placing the top side of the enclosure back on, you line up the lock/unlock lever with the switch on the circuit board.
Step 10: Put your batteries in, power on, and press the down/up button (hold down for a second). You should be scanning mute free.  Enjoy!

Wow that's amazing!!! Nice find! I've seen a handful of people on YouTube using these already with great results.
