I'm having trouble with EVPMAker. It worked fine for me many years ago and I got amazing results. But nowadays I can't get it to work.

One of the problems is that I converted all my source sounds to mp3, not remembering that it only takes wav. So I converted them back to wav, but they don't work. It seems that there are some bits to the code that are missing. ?bu? or something.

Is there any way to return the file to one that can be again used by the software?[(The originals have been, well, deleted. (I know...)

Is there another software that can randomly cut up the speech the way EVPMaker wants it?

Is there another more modern EVP software that works similarly?

USing EVPMAker I also get a message that says, "A Device has been used that is out of range for your system." I spent the day yesterday updating my drivers. Still no luck. I have a 64 bit machine.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A SOURCE FILE IN WAV FROM BACK IN THE EARLY 2000's or do, ONe with the deleted bits of code?

Thanks so much

Hi Amy,

Lets start with the program itself.

If you need a fresh copy of Stefan's EVP Maker program, you can get it off his website:

http://www.tonbandstimmen.de/evpmaker/index_e.htm

Version 2.5 is the latest version.

You say you are using a 64 bit machine.  I don't know if you are running WinXP - 7 - 8.

EVP maker's latest version was done in 2008 so running it in straight Win7 might be the problem.

I don't know if you've tried this yet but If you are using Win7...

Right click on the EVP Maker Icon and select Properties.

Go to the Compatibility Tab

Check the Run In Compatibility Mode box and select Windows XP (service pack 3)

Then click Apply...then OK.

Here's a pic for reference:

Hi,

Ron's advice is good....to supplement that, if you use a program such as audacity or the old adobe audition, there are different wav files you can save as....the one that always worked was .wav(pcm)

How about this, can you post one of the files in question and then one of us will let you know if it the file or your software?

Thanks,
Keith

If this works, then give your WAV files a try.

EVP maker is supposed to chop up and randomize any WAV file which means you should be able to use any speech file.

Most people who speak English prefer a foreign language file.

Here are some crowd babble files.  Yep, they are mp3 you you would need to convert them.

You should be able to get any foreign language off the net.

I would think a talk radio program would be best since there would not be much music involved.

Hope this helps,
Ron

P.S.  I like your website

Ron, do you have time to convert those mp3 files to a standard that you can confirm working in your evpmaker? I believe the issue lies in a corrupt format.

"visits"....please indicate if you can open your older files and successfully play them with any program at this time.

Thanks,
Keith

EVPMAker only uses wav files. I've tried mp3 but they don't work. The wav files it uses are an older kind of wav. The newer created wav files are missing a tidbit of code (called a bu or something)that prevents them from being run in the software.

I have to great files I recorded from the radio years ago. I recently converted them to mp3, then when they didn't work, I made them wav again, but the little bu code was already lost.

After I turned them into mp3 I deleted the original code and a couple days later I emptied the trash can. Time travel would have helped...but...
The best source files I ever used can be downloaded from http://visitsfromthedead.com/how-evpmaker-worksworked/ but they still won't work in EVPMaker...

Yes...

I took the crowd babble mp3's and converted them to WAV using Audacity then opened them in EVP Maker (fresh install on Win7 using compatibility mode) and they all work just fine in EVP Maker playing it straight or clicking the make evp button.

Oh yeah, they play well. But EVPMaker only uses wav.

See http://visitsfromthedead.com/how-evpmaker-worksworked/

Hi Amy,

I like your website also. I've been sitting on my new wordpress website for months now because I find web creation so challenging....I may hit you up for advice :)

Did you still need help with your old files? It seems that issue has not been resolved. The question as to whether your old files converted to mp3 can be converted back to .wav in a format successfully enough to use with evpmaker....

Regarding other software out there, no I am not aware of any others at the moment.

Thanks,
Keith

Amy,

I grabbed the German audio clip off your site and converted to WAV and it works just fine in my evp maker.

Nothing I could do about the British radio clip.  Sorry.

Ron

ok, but I still get a "A Device used is out of range for your system." I've updated the drivers for my sound card, but that hasn't helped. Don't know what else that could mean. I've looked it up but...

I'd sure like to be able to use this EVPMaker again.

Also,  do you have your settings correct in Evp Maker?

You can find them under the Extras tab:

Hi Amy,

your Britishtalkradio20141.mp3 file seems to be defective. Only the first 4.5 seconds of the file contains very low speech, the remaining 3:09 minutes is just silence. If you upload a working file (or e-mail it to me), I could convert it to WAV for you.

Regarding the device ID problem, please check the settings as ArizonaEvp mentioned.

BTW: EVPmaker was never tested by me under Windows versions above XP (which I'm still using).

Stefan

I've had a major computer shutdown for a few days due to malware. I had bitdefender running but have added malwarebytes premium. I'm functional again, but wow.

I even got evpmaker running just fine! For the settings I only need the speakers.

As for evpmaker, I have never used a microphone with the software (why give people a reason to say the evp isn't real because of background noise from a mike?) (That and the fact that we have adopted 17 kids with special needs (only 9 at home now) and the chance of noise contamination of a file was too great.

I now have a very good one, but I don't use it. I save directly to file and play back with Audacity.

I have asked my guides to bring me a path to enable good contact once again. So it's coming.

I have found an INCREDIBLE amount of help technologically in the spirit world. I asked them for help with getting evpmaker going and miraculously in a couple days it was working again. I don't really think it had anything to do with fixing my computer virus problem. :)

Using audacity: what settings do use when playing back records evpmaker messages? 50% 30% speed? anything else?
