My wife often says 'so how does it do it ?' about some projects that gain results..and I reply 'I dont know' LOL
So i'm very guilty of the build now and find out how it does it later method.
On checking through and rerunning through chip datasheets i'll often find out the effect is supposed to be there and nothing much of real use, so pull it to bits.

One exception has been the Intel 8255 chip. It's supposed to be a general I/O device for working with Intel CPU's. A bit of experimenting found that it formed a fantastic basis for an EMF detector, with very few external components beside a coil.
Not bad going for a 1970's chip :blink:
