In making a diode out of the razor blade - pencil method, you would have to find the right spot on the blade to get the best forward voltage drop so.....from that standpoint you would get a sweep-style sound as you write out your question(s).
If you wanted a larger work area so to speak, you could always use a floor scrapper blade. You can get a 14 inch carbon steel blade at lowes for $5.18.
