Use of the ferrite rod may not be a good idea due to its high Q and sensitivity. Id suggest an RF choke of equivalent or higher inductance value, so the Q and radio pickup ability is much lower. Also put a resistor across the choke to lower the Q further. Try 10K to start and then lower values to get the Q down. The idea is to receive atmospheric noise without receiving radio stations, so if you want to make it resonant, it needs to be in a band that is not used for radio broadcasting. A spot frequency in an unused band, say longwave would be the ideal. JEFF
