just wondering ... does anyone know of  a good resource for gaining a better understanding of acoustics and sonics in general?

there seems to be a lot of research going into it at the moment, but i can't find much on the mechanics of it on the web; no forums etc (maybe i just need to learn how to use google better)

but it is being used alot in radar, pest control, sonic surgical lasers, sonic weapons, ultrasound, etc, etc ... this device is very controversial -

http://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/

i thought of playing with an NCH tone generator; directing "all the" hz, mhz, frequencies to a copper tin with a heavy rock on top, for a few seconds . to see if the rock would ever fall through .. (like if you ever made the copper atoms vibrate at the right frequency to allow that) ... but as i am a total novice, and dont even know if that's possible .. that's why i'm asking now, and i think a better understanding of sonic physics could help us all in general anyway

thank you

Hi Nerol,

I'm not aware of a on-stop shop for learning on the internet in relation to sound, but there is quite a bit of it out there.

What I found myself doing at first was just trying crazy ideas. The crazier, the better. And the more you try, more ideas will come. Doesn't even matter if anyone else thinks it's worthwile, all that is required is that you have the desire to communicate. Sooner or later, due to your difference in personality and character, you'll end up in an area that suits your abilities and interests.

Sorry I didn't help much in the way of direct answers, but I hope it helped anyway.

Wikipedia may also prove useful.

Keith

oh that's kool

i found a little bit of stuff for like "audio hobbyists", but not much , and much of the equipment is very expensive.  a lot of hardware is used for anaylizing aircraft parts and what not.

but many of the most ground breaking discoveries have been relatively simple in construction .. light bulbs, magnetic coil amps, etc etc
