Greetings Earthlings

I would like to thank Dan....AKA....Shadowman for bringing this to my attention.

Here is another sound that is a lot closer to home than the Saturn radio signal.

It is called Earth Auroral Kilometric Radiation (AKR)

The Earth is a powerful radio transmitter.  It emits a kind of radio wave in the frequency range of 100 - 550 Khz.  The strongest of these transmissions occour at the poles as energy particles move through the earth'e magnetic fields in tandem with the Aurora's.

The following AKR recording is courtesy of the University of Iowa:

I did a basic noise reduction to knock down the harshness.

Here is that filtered version.

Among the different things I hear,  please listen to index 12.1 to 14.5 seconds and you might hear:

I'm not old at all

I don't know about you, but I'm glad to hear the Earth is not ready to retire.

Here's a link for a basic overview of the process of how earth's natural radio works:

SOme great info here. It was news to me. My radio is currently using the frequencies 150Khz-200khz so this thread was of particular interest to me.

Thanks Dan and Arizona!

Keith

Link to a "Radio Kit" for the Sferic reception.

Best to be out in the country to avoid any interference...these radio's are sensitive. A couple miles away from ANY electrical lines are needed. That's hard to do now in these days. I think these newer models have filters to remove some of the interference (60Hz)but not the harmonics.

I have a very simple model of these radio "type" (rare) but I don't know where it is located right now. I know I do still have it.

I've thought of getting this "Inspire Radio" for a few years now. They are an easy build and are well thought out... not just simple.

They used to include a picture. I'll need to look around.

Type in "Inspire Radio" in Google and then choose Pictures...Now pick the First picture (Radio Is Green).

They used to include the schematic in the description of the radio and showed the instructions to assemble to let you decide if you could build it...Nice radio.

If I try to include the link here....it is extremely long.

Hmm....Looks like I need to proof read my pages I link :-)
