Very interesting.  I'm wondering how he could possibly have heard that, being in the midst of his discussion with the host.  The normal human perception process of selection would almost certainly have precluded his catching what sounds like nothing initially, even with decent headphones.  It follows, unless I am missing something here, that one would have to be focused intently and entirely on the short pause between what one has said and the resultant response, which is extremely difficult to do even if one has decided to select for whatever might crop up in that normal response lag in advance.
