There have always been natural disasters, and there always will be. I think it only seems that there are an increasing number of natural catastrophes because our communications technology has evolved to such a significant extent; not only do we hear of massive natural disasters (often in just a matter of moments), but in today's world we also learn of even the most minor of geological and weather related events that take place in the most remote areas of the world--events that, even just a few decades ago, we would never have heard about.
As for the doomsayers, they have always been around, and they always will be. Written history is strewn with predictions of the imminent end of all things. The prophecies come and go, and yet the world just keeps on ticking....
