 I just tried another edit of that portion.

Reverse the entire clip then select 5.9 to 9.8. Slight increase of speed of a few % and raise the pitch a semitone.
It sounds very clearly spoken to me.. "those massive spaces" said in an (urban/suburban) American accent of some sort.
