I used to keep quiet throughout all the recordings I did. Then at times I would ask a question in the beginning of the recording, but I found that they often wanted to start talking immediately, so my voice and theirs overlapped. Now, I usually ask my question before I record, If I have one, and I don't even have to ask it out loud, of course. At other times, if I wait a bit before asking the question on the recorder, they will answer it before I have asked it! Vicki
