These instances of oily liquid leeching from walls & religious objects (of those I have known about) have pertained to Christian churches & homes of the devout ..appears there's some link?
(although in this instance, you surely have to be suspicious of a refusal to allow video cameras to be set up)
The reporter could have asked to see their ladder -for any smears of cooking oil.
