Dan I had a friend pass over not too long ago and I could hear him freaking out because he didn't like where he was.   AT ALL!   He thought I guess that he was going somewhere else.  He was very upset, but other friends calmed him down.   I don't think, ( from what I hear anyway) that we all go to the same place,  or I should say stay at the same place.  Some move on and some don't,  I have 3 friends in spirit that stay around me because they want to.  They were very good friends of mine.
